This presentation will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2020 between 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (CDT)
David Stacy will cover an introduction to Performance Based Design and Fire Modeling Performance based design approaches through computational fire and egress modeling are utilized when alternative methods to the prescriptive code are required in order to achieve your project’s architectural goals. Most commonly utilized in design of smoke control systems, such as for atriums, arenas, and other large spaces, performance based designs can also be utilized to justify increases in travel distance, decreases in required fire-resistance ratings, and other unique architectural desires. This presentation will provide an overview of this design approach, specifically as it relates to fire and life safety. Required steps to the process, including review and approval by AHJ’s, will be outlined, as well as case-studies where it has been used.
