Topic: NFPA 660 and Dust Hazard Analysis: What You Need to Know
Presenter: Dr. Chris Cloney (PEng.)
Topic Description: Combustible dust hazards span a wide range of industries, materials, and process conditions—creating challenges for consistent safety practices. This presentation explores the biggest hurdles in managing combustible dust risks, including how dust hazards are perceived differently from gas and vapor risks. We'll walk through the Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) process and highlight key updates in NFPA 660, the new consolidated standard replacing previous dust-specific NFPA standards.
Presenter Bio: Dr. Chris Cloney (PEng.) is the Managing Director of Dust Safety Science, a leading training organization dedicated to preventing combustible dust fires and explosions. With a PhD in hybrid mixture gas and dust explosions, Chris has published over 15 peer-reviewed journal articles and is a recognized expert in the field. Through online education, live training programs, and expert-led teaching, he and his team provide the knowledge and tools needed to improve workplace safety, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect workers from dust-related hazards. Chris has spoken at industry events worldwide, and his insights have been featured in Powder & Bulk Solids, Milling & Grain, Canadian Biomass, and Chemical Engineering magazines.

This meeting will be virtual via teams and in person at the offices of Benham, a Haskell Company. If you would like to attend in person, Benham’s office is located at 14000 Quail Springs Parkway, Suite 500 East Tower, Oklahoma City, OK 73134. Please see the Parking information below for a location of the East Entrance. Once inside, head to the elevators and proceed to the 5th floor. Check-in with Kim at the front desk and she will direct you to the training room. Please call this number if you get lost (Benham Admin – 405-478-5353). The training room is equipped with AV so we will broadcast the presentation and presenter audio to the webinar attendees. OK SFPE will organize food and drink, and it will be provided in the room around 11:45. Please bring $15 to cover your meal cost, this month we will be providing Jimmy John's.
